IIRC, that comes with the Geforce 310M card. You can play SOME games, but not many.

The Witcher 2 is probably out. Maybe at the lowest settings it would work.

Is it too late to return it? If you're serious about gaming on a laptop I would wait for Llano to come out, it should really shake up the market.

Maybe you can sign up for onlive. I heard streaming the games works well even on netbooks. I don't know of onlive has any graphic intensive games for free but you can try streaming a demo using gaikai which is a cloud gaming demo service.

You can test dead space 2 after you take the survey that's linked in this article.

EDIT: Whoa, just tried out some of the DS2 demo. That shit is pretty freaky.

Uhm, a lot of PC game are scalable, so you *may* be able to play some current games on it but you will definitely have to put a lot of the settings on low.

The Witcher 2 is coming out soon, but the other games you've mentioned may be too far in the future to really be able to tell.

Your system can "game", but it's better suited for last-gen and older games (think Source engine games, indies, etc.) IMO.

If you want a desktop, build your own. You can put one together that can handle just about anything for less than half that price.

It's not that hard, you just need to find a good guide and take it slow. It's like Legos.

Oh and the most important thing for gaming by far is the graphics card. Laptops have really weak graphics. If you build a computer you should get a decent graphics card. Even a $150 graphics card will blow any laptop out of the water.

Another option if you're really unsure about building yourself is to just buy a prebuilt desktop and replace the graphics card, but the problem is that Dell and other companies don't have many options for graphics. They may be limited in how much room there is in the case for a graphics card, or maybe the power supply doesn't have the extra connectors necessary. So you're really better off building your own.

I thought Best Buy used to have a 14-day return policy for laptops. It might've been just to exchange for a nicer laptop. I can't really remember and don't know if they still have it. I'd definitely ask someone about it though.

If you can exchange it, make sure you get a laptop with a decent videocard. If you can outright return it, then you'll be much better off with a desktop. If you don't feel comfortable building one, just buy a Dell that has a PCI-eX16 slot and add a 5850 video card for about $140. That video card will play any game out there and play most of them at high settings.

If the store doesn't advertise the graphics chip on a laptop's spec sheet, it's not worth bragging about.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about mobile graphics, but if you do, get a system that touts it.

Are you kidding? There are websites and stores out there that would advertise "equipped with Nvidia Geforce 8400GM for HD gaming!" on laptops - just because it's advertised does not make it true - well it may have been true at one point in time, but it certainly does not hurt to do your homework anyways.
