I was wondering if there is a virus or a program secretly accessing my webcam and spying on me. Its a hp laptop and its a built-in. Should it have some protection? I know it activate when theres a blue light but. I need to be sure.

Cover it up or be paranoid.

Also, it has a mic, how do you know it isn't on and streaming?

If my Logitech Quickcam has been spying on me since I got it then I have enough material now to open a full-service pay website.

Those type of videos and websites generally require more than one person. Let's just say your probably not getting paid anytime soon. :p

No it can't fscking spy on you it's an electronic sensor that doesn't give a fsck what you're doing. Stop being paranoid and insecure.

My mom is paranoid about HDTV's and the switch to all digital, she thinks the government can see in our living rooms through the tv. :disgust:

Duh. Your mom is right. That is what the red LED light beside the power button is for...

No. Of course not. That is impossible. Completely impossible. Now go to sleep and ignore the blue light. Ignore it. There is nothing to worry about. Everything will be alright. Here, the HP camera will download some nice porn to your monitor to help you to "relax" before bed.
Nothing to worry about.

I heard OnStar.. even non-activated.. can 'spy' on us at any time. They can track with GPS and listen in on us.

So.. if OnStar can do it, why not an hp laptop?

 exactly what i was about to say.

if you're paranoid OP, i suppose you might be able to turn the webcam off in the BIOS or maybe through the device manager. but even if some virus did spy on you through your webcam, no offense but what would it see? you using the laptop?

besides, a virus that is based on a webcam wouldn't be effective as not everybody has a webcam.

Last night was pretty cool to watch. I have heard about the hollow cucumber in the microwave thing but never actually saw it live.

I bought and HP laptop about four months ago, so I'm not sure if I've supplied much content from my webcam yet. However, what is wrong with this question?

This question would be reasonable considering that I might vouch that no contributor to this forum can say to me with absolute certainty that there is no way you can absolutely know when your webcam is turned on. So, it has a blue LED that lights up telling you that it is in operation, and so, you think that the BIOS is "secure". What does all this mean? With ever-widening bandwidth, the transmission of motion from one pole of this planet to another in real-time is becoming easier.

Beating (there might be a pun there for some of you) someone up for asking what I think is a fairly reasonable question is just the type of wilful complacency that creates the types of hazard that prompts the question.

If all you can be bothered doing is having a go at the person who asks this question, then why bother living?

Enjoy.

In regards to the question, cover the camera if you are concerned.
