Can my friend EFF up his automatic car shifting his "gears" more often than he should?

Don't know about his obsession, but he likes to pretend he's driving a stick. His accord has the following "gears"

1
2
dr3
dr4
n
r
p

He likes to start at 1, drive up to the appropriate rpm, slow down a bit, shift to second, and so on, up until dr4. Would this hurt his automatic car in any way?

EDIT- thanks, another question, when the car is in park, and you're revving the crap out of the engine, does that eat up gas?

hehheh....I used to do that in high school 🙂

Manual shifting won't hurt anything.

No it will not uless you over-rev the engine. But it is stupid.

Depends on what type of auto it is. Some autos like the 4r70w can take manually shifting all day long... it really depends. Just be easy in OD as it is the weakest gear.

That is about the stupidest question I heard in the last 10 minutes.

Blah, jeez, i was just checking. It's just that that same friend loves to rev his engine while in park. I thought he knew something i didn't.

You mean you don't know about the secret "in Park" feature that lets the engine run without using any gas? 😉

Seriously though, AFAIK, freewheeling an engine like that isn't good for it. Someone please correct me if I'm incorrect.

Nope, he's just an idiot...

Brakes are cheaper than transmissions. 😛
