Can my Dell TV be fixed?

I have a Dell W1700 LCD TV which I bought back in late 04 or early 05, and it just started giving me problems. Now I know the common thing with LCD's is that the backlight goes out, but I can't tell if thats the case, and it should not have done that this early...

When I turn the TV on, I see the picture for a couple seconds, then it goes black. I still hear sound and power light is still on. I can't get the picture to show up again until I turned it off and then on. If the black light was out, I should not even get a picture at all right?

Basically I want to know what the problem is and if I can fix it...I really dont want to pay another 600-800 bucks on a new TV especially when the smaller ones dont have HD built in yet.

Good. Notice that Dave said the replacement instructions didn't mention the fact that you need to remove the speakers to get to some screws. He said it was easy to do, but something the instruction writers left out.

Well I got the inverter board and my TV works now 🙂 Thanks a lot for the tip.

The instructions on the website were a bit more vague than I was expecting. The speakers were easy, but it also missed a couple screws and the fact that all the foil like material had to be taken off in order to lift the part up where the board was. I was kind of afraid to do that, but I did not know what else to do.
