This is my computer

# Operating system:Windows 2.5.1.2600 (SP 3)
# CPU type:AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800
# CPU Speed (GHz):2.03
# System memory (GB):0.999
# Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
# Desktop resolution:1920x1080
400 W CASE PSU
A8N SLI MOBO SOCKET 939 PCI (first version of PCI Express)

Will the CPU or LACK of ram be a problem with bottlenecking? Would I be better off just purchasing a new computer? The most demanding game I want to play graphically will most likely be SC2 and Diablo 3.

I want to play these games in 1920x1080 at around 70 or so FPS Steady.

Is my power supply big enough?

You need a rebuild. :(

Good news is you can grab a cheap AMD system for about 300$ and it will be 2x faster.

your cpu is pretty darn slow for modern games. I know some people are going to say that doesnt matter at 1920x1080 but to be honest that cpu is not going to provide adequate performance in many games. you also have only 1gb of system memory which is not enough for modern games by any means.

Yup, rebuild from scratch if you want to be playing modern games. If you want to save some money, wait until SC2 comes out before building. If you're going to be playing other games in the meantime though, go ahead and build now.

Rule #1 is to NEVER upgrade for a game which requires the upgrade until it is actually released (esp. if it's made by Valve or Blizzard). So come back June 1, 2010 at the earliest.

Hardware prices fall so fast, wait until SC2 comes out. AMD should have their 6 core processors launched, and hopefully DDR3 prices will come down a little bit. Certainly by the summer time, there will be price drops on 5xxx series.

Well everyone knows that SC2 isn't going to be that graphically demanding and the Beta seems to confirm that cus they want a wide range of people to be able to play it. An modern system you make now SHOULD be able to play it just fine.

Consider what you would get if you upgraded the whole PC, then get that video card (whatever it is) now. When SC2 comes out, see if you can play it. If you can, great! If you can't, upgrade the rest of the PC.

Your PC is pretty old so your going to have to upgrade it in the not too distant future anyway if you want to keep gaming. But you do not have to upgrade it all at once, incremental upgrades work fine.

Of course, I didn't really answer your question, did I?

Based on the system specs you gave, you should be able to support a 5770. The only question is the power supply. My Power Supply is only 25W more than yours but I believe if we add the numbers up I'm drawing a little more power than you as well. Does your PS have the necessary connectors for a 5770?

You can run it fine. Will be a big upgrade over your 6600 and it give you some more time before a rebuilt SC2 doesn't look like it's to hard on pc's.
