Can my comp run RC5 and SETI at the same time?

I've set the priority in RC5 to the default setting of zero. It said that it would only run when there were CPU cycles to spare. But if I'm also running SETI 24-7 howmany "extra" CPU cycles would there be? SETI's a pretty intensive program, wouldn't that eat up most if not all of my spare CPU power? Thanks. :)

I think people who do both, run SETI in screensaver mode, so RC5 runs when you're using the puter, and SETI kicks in during idle times. I'm not a SETI guy, though, so I could be full of crap.:)

Yes to Both of the items that Russ said...

1st...Most run the Seti as a screensaver and the D.net client runs while the screensaver is off...

2nd...Russ is full of crap! :p

The only problem with running SETI in screen saver mode is it's about 5x slower.

Actually what I've started doing is only running SETI at night or when I'm not using my computer. For some reason I get static and clipping when I'm playing mp3s and games and have SETI running at the same time. And I have no idea why!

Make sure you have it set to blank screen at 0 minutes. That will speed up the screensaver. Their visualization algorithms are apparantly crap. I over tripled my units by turning on blank screen.

I tried that but I still get that horrid static when playing music on my comp. One thing I like to do is to have music playing while I do homework or read. If SETI is on at the same time that music becomes torturous to listen to.

Like I said in my last post, I'll run SETI at night and RC5 during the day. Thanks. :)

If you set the SETI screensaver to go to blank screen mode in 0 mins, and only have it run when the screensaver is active, it should be nearly as fast as the CLI.
