Can MSN MESSenger be removed without causing problems?

I'd like to get rid of it but I thought I heard somewhere that it can be difficult to remove or can cause problems if attempted to remove.

i don't bother to remove it...i just cut and paste it into another folder so it doesn't start up... i don't know if that's the best thing to do
 
Yes it's perfectly harmless. The only thing you can't use then is MSN Explorer which if you try to use will prompt to install back messenger.
