My wife has to buy a machine for a company employee, and the low bidder wants to use MS Works.
Can Works open Excel & Word docs made in Office?

Office can not open Works either.

Files must be exported to a common format.

Either install OpenOffice or get a older version of MS Office if the bidder will not cooperate.
 
The Works suite stinks, but all include Word. For Excel a standalone viewer is available, free, from Msft. Open Office (free) reads Word and Excel files.
