Can it be done?

Can I use the same domain name for these email servers?
How will my emails be routed? How will it know which server to use?

I am currently happily running Imail server. I want to learn more about MS Exchange and would like to know if it will mess my imail server

Thanks for any respond

To my knowledge, both mail servers would try to handle the messages and it wouldn't cause a fight...just duplicate messages as long as they are both fast enough. You're going to have to kill one of them or maybe run one for your internal network and one for your domain on different servers...That is unless you want to change ports. You can always run non-standard ports for POP3 and SMTP on one email server(either Imail or Exchange), but all users must know these ports to configure their client machines correctly. It's a rough world ain't it...

I guessed the port mapping on POP and SMTP ... that is tough :(

Will it be possible to run one domain name with both exchange and Imail ?
I guess not rite ?

Well,, I guess I have to uninstall Imail and mess with exchange more :)

Thx for the reply anyway.

By themselves you will not be able to run them at the same time, either with the same domain name, or different ones on the same IP. However, there may be 3rd party software which will accept the SMTP connection, then connect to non standard ports and send both applications the mail.

However you may want to tell us why. Exchange does include a web based access, however the only reason to run exchange over imail is if you require contacts, calandars, and a corporate style network connection with mail.

Actually I just wanted to learn more on Exchange. Imail is preety good and it doesn't consume that much resources. It's ligthweight and fast and easy to configure.

However, I want to learn more on exchange;s features. Sharing mailbox between multiple users, video converencing server, multimedia server, who knows what else come with it :)

I think I will ditch Imail if I have time to play with xchange ...
