Can Mozilla/Firefox open window in new tab?

Hello ALL:

I have used myie2 and maxthon and like the gestures and tab browsing. I have Mozilla 1.7.1 and see the tabs but, unlike myie2, I can not get a new window to also open a second tab on the tab bar. Therefore, once a new window is open, there is no tab to go back to the previous site.

Is this possible with a setting?

I assume, too, that myie2 and maxthon are the only ones with mouse gestures.

TIA,
Dave

Middle button maybe? Of course, you may have to set it up to work that way (not sure how the Winders install is setup). :Q

You mean instead of popping up a second browser you just want a new tab? There is a firefox extension for that, not sure about mozilla.

Well ya...

if you want you middle click on a link it should open up in a new tab, even if it normally would open up a new window.

if you want this to happen automaticly you have several extensions that can handle it. You have TBE, which is the massive tab extensions, but there are smaller ones, like for one window browsing so that you always have only one windows. Also usefull for things like X terminals, or public koisks so that you only have one browser open and that's all they'll ever need.

Can you tell me where to get the extension that gives me only one window for browsing? I'm sick of clicking links and having tons of windows open. Thanks.

tabbrowser extensions Is a must have for firefox. Enough options to do anything you want. Just make sure to go over the advanced options (there's a ton).

Personally I don't like the full "tab browser extensions" stuff. Too bloated and buggy for me. There are smaller packages that do the similar things when you don't need all the features, just a couple changes.

Also keep in mind that extensions for the most part are 3-d party add-ons and may not be up to the same quality of software that the browser itself is. May cause unexpected things to happen.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want tabs I just want new links to open in the same window.

Well most of the extensions are aviable thru here

Looks like the have one called "This Window".

A pretty trivial extension that adds the ability to force a window to open in the current window. This is helpful if you don't want to open another browser window.

No, there are numerous extensions for those in moz/firefox as well. Here is where I get most of my extensions.

Good site. I may try it out.

I like Maxthon (myie2) as you have 1 window. whatever you click does 2 things...bookmark or link works the same...it opens in current (only one) window AND puts a tab up. When I clicked your link, I went to that site. When I wanted to come back here I went to the Anand tab...or used the mouse gestute to go back.

I may try FireFox...I use Mozilla 1.7.1 for work only.

Thanks for all the replys everyone.

Many do. Tab Browser Extension (TBE) is actually a Moz extension that happens to work in FireFox.

When I click "install" for the This Window extension nothing seems to install. How do you install it?
Thanks.

You are using the browser you mean to install it for right? ;) I have found that update.mozilla.org gets a little slow sometimes. Maybe if you try a little later it will work?

I also notice that update.mozilla.org only displays the Extensions Page well in Mozilla. IE and Maxthon make it look like an unreadable mess.

There's a bug for fixing that.

Works fine here in Firefox 9.1 on fedora 2. What's the problem?

It's buggy like Windows ME is a problem, and like smoking is dangerous. Some people will suffer no ill effects. Some will have trouble all the time.

It's not reasonable for Mozilla and Firefox users to whine when pages only work in IE, if they don't make their own content work in IE as well as Mozilla and Firefox. Anyway, the bug is here, and as you can see, I've presented a fix (the guy who wrote it originally used some idiotic CSS), so it will probably be fixed by Monday.

Anyone know how to enable the Alt text on images in Firefox? Like when you stop your pointer on an image there can be words pop up, it works in IE but not in Firefox.

Nope, in this case it is the other way around. Mozilla is fine...it's IE, etc that will not display the page.

Anyway, I will look Monday. I see the CSS crossed out.
