Can MBR be fixed from within Windows XP?

I can boot into Windows XP after inserting the Disk into the drive, I'm just wondering if MBR can be fixed from within the OS itself.

I'm having trouble getting to the recovery console from the CD itself. It'll load drivers and then freeze when I press R.

Anyone know? Any help on this is greatly appreciated

fixmbr is recovery console only 🙁

If you are comfortable doing so you could copy sector 0 off another good disk then drop it on and manually put the partition table back together. (if doesn't make sense then best not try 😛 )

Be sure that when you are booting to your Windows CD to get into recovery console you do it exactly like you were trying to load an OS..by that I mean be sure to supply the F6 drivers.

If you are continuing to get a freeze after hitting R and you have indeed provided the right drivers then you are facing a hardware issue. Windows Setup is just too simple of an app for much to go wrong.
