Can Mac OS X and OS 9 share the same server?

I know this is probably a pretty basic networking question, but I'm currently on a network of Macs running OS 9.x, and I'm going to be the company test case to try OS X. Once I've installed OS X, will I still be able to access the company server (running on OS 9)? My instincts say no, but I'm not the most knowledgeable networking person in the world.

I believe you can. I don't have a Mac with OS 9 on it to test though. I know I can connect to SMB shares, so apple shares are probably a thumbs up too.

it depends. its more of a protocol issue i believe.
what do you want to connect to, file sharing?
Think of it this way, you could reach an ftp server with os X or os9 because they use the same protocol(ftp). so now figure out if they use the same protocol

being mac-unfriendly i cant really offer more info.

I've been told that both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X use AppleTalk (one of the Control Panels), which I believe uses FTP as the protocol. Unfortunately the only person who knows anything about our network is out sick today. But I'm pretty sure I just need to make sure that AppleTalk is on on all the computers involved.

OS X has Apple Talk (just checked). OS 9 definitely has Appletalk. Should work just fine.
