Can Mac access win2k server via termial services?

You might be able to use the free Citrix Mac client, since Windows Terminal Services is based on Citirix' software.

Otherwise, VNC has clients and servers for win2k and Mac OS and is free.

If you are using Windows 2000 Server or higher then you can install Macintosh file services and AppleTalk directly on the server, and the Mac will be able to see and use files on the server as if it was a native Mac machine.

If you want the Mac to be visible in Network Neighborhood or whatever they call it now, then you need to install a program called DAVE on the Mac. With DAVE, the Mac will look and act just like a PC on the network. It's about $150.

Pretty sure this requires the Citrix server-side overlay, which is boocoo $$$$

Yeah, I just tried the Citrix thing and it doesn't work :disgust: At least it didn't cost anything to try...

VNC does work just fine. Be sure to encrypt your connection using SSH if you connect over the internet.

Terminal services also has something called TSAC (ts advanced client) which allow you to access your TS server via a web browser. The web browser that works best is (big surprise) Internet Explorer, and since they make IE for the MAC, it may work. I'm not really sure.

If you're using OS X you could try rdesktop, it's a Linux RDP client that works really well on a unix with X but would probably need tweaking to get working on OS X well.

If you're on OS <X you're probably pretty much screwed, cross platform client access is one of Citrix's big selling points.

rclient work very well on OS X, but you will need some tweak. You could also uses Terminal services via TSAC, or run an x86 emulation then terminal services. Terminal services work verywell though emulation even on a G3 lappy with 128 megs of ram.

The best thing you can do is built an xserver & run thin clients on old 486 & pentiums that is much easyer to config than MS Terminal services & TCAL.

According to MS, TSAC is a Win32 control, so I don't think it will work on a Mac.

Maybe PlatinumGold can elaborate a little more on what they mean by "integrate a mac powerpc into a win2k network" - what exactly do they want to accomplish? Internet connection sharing? File sharing? Printing? Or something else?
