Can laptops power modern lcds?

I was thinking of getting an 500-700 dollar HP notebook, but I remember my old laptop had a really bad vga out. I've noticed the newer laptops have an intel 4500M integrated video, anyone know if these will be able to output to 1080p?

bag VGA out is kind of a rarity. most laptops have VGA as well as HDMI which is what you'll want to use with a 1080p display.

It depends on 2 things.
1: Can it 'drive' a 1920*1080 display (Yes)
2: Can it playback full 1080p content (probably, the 4500 should be able to handle something like BluRay or 1080p h264 content)
