Can laminate countertops be waterproofed for outdoor use?

make your own surface with liquid casting resin? it'll be flat AND level without needing to shim.

Though, you move that cinder block 1/4" and it won't be level any more.

Yeah, I've used Envirotex on some projects (the same stuff they use on bar countertops for like 1/8" clearcoat, basically just a 2-part epoxy).

Concrete is in the back of my head, but I'd have to do more work to make it permanent so it'd be part of the patio when I move out.

Unless it's perfectly sealed it will swell in no time.

I would get half a sheet of treated 3/4 plywood, some mortar, grout and cheap tiles. Cost probably less than $75. plus labor.

When its time to move, take the hammer to it.

I wouldn't even mess with the plywood. Spend $10 on a 3x5 sheet of durock. It'll wear better and the tile will stick better.
