Can iTunes be used with more than one iPod?

We have an iPod and iTunes. I'm thinking about getting a second iPod. Can we sync to both iPods or does iTunes limit you to a single iPod?

Easiest way to handle multiple IPods on one computer is to manually manage each one.

Each iPod will have identical libraries on them unless you manually edit the playlists and whatnot.

My wife and her friend learned this firsthand when they had basically spent a whole weekend shrinking songs & creating their whole "favorites" lists, then sync'd in the iTunes on my wife's laptop only to find that it literally ditched all the music on her friend's iTunes who lives an hour away & there was nothing they could do about it.

Ever since then I vowed to NEVARRRR let iTunes bitch-rape in this house ever again.

Another vote for "MANUALLY MANAGE MY MUSIC" combined with........."ONLY SYNC SELECTED ITEMS".

It's about as close as you can get to handling things the way you want.

See the problem is, 99% of people don't read the instructions. Then there is another 90% that will click whatever box opens on a computer screen without reading it. THose are two bad combinations. You can't really blame iTunes and Apple for the end users faults. And when you plug in your iPod to someone else computer it does say that you may only sync one ipod to one library and choosing to resync ipod will erase all data on it..

So in effect iTunes didn't bitchrape your wifes iPod. She was sitting there with her pod wide saying come and get it big fella, your GUI is so smooth it makes me not want to read.

Well said. I really don't understand the hate ITunes gets. It's far from great, but it is functional and gets the job done. I'm manually managing songs and videos on 4 separate IPods on my main computer. No problems at all.

The best feature ever for iTunes. If you have alot of .WMA lossless audio files with ID tags and cover art associated with them you can create playlists in iTunes and drop the files you want to convert on that playlist. iTunes will convert these files to whatever format you specify in the prefrences under advanced > importing. You can convert lossless audio from a HDD to 192Kbps Mp3 or AAc files, or if you need more quality select a higher bitrate. These files retain all their ID and artwork information as well. This is very useful for someone who wants a simple way to convert multiple audio files to something a bit less space consuming for their media player (Zen, iPod, Zune etc).

I have 6 ipods associated with one pc and one install of itunes. The only thing I hate about itunes (and this just happened lastnight). I just got a 160gb classic ipod from my GF and synched it up. I only had about 27gbs of tunes and vids cuz tha largest pod I had was a 30gb video. Anyway, I dumped about 60gb of mp3s from my HD, hoping itunes was "smart" enough to know that the file/song is already there, but noooooo. Now I have to weed through about 6000 songs and get out all the dupes.

iTunes does what you tell it to. If you want it there it puts it there. Rather than tell someone "you can't do that" and have someone say "WHY DOESN'T IT UPLOAD THIS SONG" without knowing they already have it there.

Makes it easier. But there are some more advanced features that people forget about like show duplicates, download artwork, & convert files from one format to another for device compatibility.

Let's say I have 40 playlists in iTunes and two ipods. I want a selection of 30 playlists loaded on one ipod and a different selection of 30 on the other. I already use the manual sync function because I have more music than room on the ipod I already have. Is it as simple as plugging in each ipod in turn and manually selecting the playlists to sync?
