That's not because of Trump. When Obama was president, it was estimated Kim could have up to 100 nukes by 2020. Also, Trump got China to put some pressure on them.

I think this has more to do with the new South Korean President than the Donald...

Might not actually be related to either. Their last 1 or 2? were duds, IIRC, so they are probably desperate to show they are still a threat to more than just South Korea. I don't know what they think that will get them, though.

I honestly believe that this is a well planned scenario that looks like its one flew over the cuckoo's nest but really is all actors working together. It has staged written all over it but only time will tell if that is true.

WTF Why are you assigning ideology on me over this? Yes, Bush didn't do ****, and unlike Iraq, it was a country with a known nuclear program. They made a threat, but NK called their bluff and became a nuclear power under his watch.

How? it's all over in google.

North Korea may have 100 atomic arms by 2020

At a minimum, Mr Wit said, North Korea will be able to deploy 20 nuclear weapons by 2020, but a far more likely scenario puts that stockpile at 50 weapons by the end of the decade.

A "worst-case scenario", in which North Korea makes dramatic technological advances in both its nuclear programme and delivery systems, would permit Pyongyang to have 100 atomic weapons available.

Hey, I can bold, too.....and that's from your article. And really, no one knows how advanced NK is, how their programs are progressing, or much of anything else. I'd be willing to bet even China is mostly in the dark about NK's nuclear capabilities and/or NK's tech progress.

Agreed. Firing duds is not a way to make a threat or create the illusion of being one. From the way I see it, every time they fire off a successful missile launch or two 'lil Kim gets a shwanger with a "happy ending" and when his missiles flop and pop so does his ego and well, their supply of techs and scientists takes another major hit.

Kim, as would Trump, takes these things personal and seeing as both are paper tyrants in their own right, appearances are everything to people like them.

Well duh. I even said, "could have up to [...]". And 50 is still a serious risk, which will undoubtedly involve even more powerful versions and eventually hydrogen warheads. Your dismissal of the risks is just odd.

the official response from the White House?

"The White House on Saturday said President Donald Trump "cannot imagine that Russia is pleased" with North Korea's latest missile test."

Ah- didn't quite search for the right thing. However, it's obviously a wrong assessment: 2020 is only 3 years away and as of yet they've been hit or miss getting one low yield detonation working.

I remember in psychology class back in college we studied "tells" that a person is either untruthful or masquerading, and one of them is "using a lot of adjectives in front of nouns and overly-general terms". If you listen to Trump talk about anything, it's like he has to put a 20 adjective minimum into each sentence and can't use an exact term for anything he tries to explain.
