Can intel Z boards (Z170, etc.) overclock memory modules with a non-K CPU?

Mainboards have an option to OC memory modules' speed. Is this option available with non-K CPUs?

For example, an i5-7500's default memory speed is DDR4-2400. Is it possible to use say DDR4-3000 modules at their rated speed, or will they be locked to 2400?

All Intel Z-series chipsets, at least from the last few generations (Z87, Z97, Z170, Z270, now Z370?), allowed you to OC RAM speeds, to whatever the max of what your CPU's IMC and the DRAM chips on your DIMMs would support. More realistically, it allowed you to set the XMP setting that was max for your purchased DIMMs.

So, in short, YES.

Thanks. I really did not want to be forced on a K model just for memory OC-ing.
