Can Intel Pentium-M be used in a normal computer?

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if there are any solutions out there to make it able to use a Pentium-M CPU in a desktop. I know that there aren't any desktop motherboards that work, but is there any way to do this?

well yes and no. the chip is electronically compatable with p4s so if a MB maker wanted to thier nothing stopping them from building a board for them. I think it will even work with p4 chipsets

Their is a converter available, but, you have to buy the chi from the company (powerleap) at the same time. As someone said you just need a compatab;e motherboard socket e.g. the hp?compaq nc4000 uss an ati rs300 chipset rather than an 855 chipset. Also anand mentioned that shuttle will have one available in q3?q4 of this year.

You need a board specifically designed for the Pentium M. There are a few of these boards now trickling onto the market. Check out this Fujitsu Pentium M desktop motherboard (the product name is "PFU PD-41PM160M1"):

http://www.pfu.fujitsu.com/prodes/product/boardcomputer/pd-41pm160m1.html

It has 3 PCI slots and an AGP slot. It's only available in Japan at the moment. Get it via mail order from this Japanese web site for "only" 48,000 Yen (US $430). :)

This web site is also selling another Pentium M motherboard, the "IPoX IP-4MTI2H" -- which has SATA, Gigabit LAN, and compact flash socket. (It has a FSB of 400 OR 533MH -- which surprises me. Are they making 533 Mhz Pentium M chips now?)

Supposedly Shuttle will have a Pentium M small form factor product on the market by the end of the year.

I've also heard the rumor about Shuttle and the Pentium M XPC. I think it would be a great combo. Less heat is always good in a SFF system, plus instead of trying to cram a higher wattage power supply into the case (taking up space and creating heat) the CPU will use a fraction (what, 1/3 or 1/5?) of the power of a high end Prescott while giving almost the same performance. That unused power supply juice can go to power another hard drive or a better video card.

Not yet, but they are upcoming.
