Can installing a HD mess up a Burner?

80gig Western Digital Special Edition. I got it and I'm making it my second HD. I'm going from having 1 60 gig partitioned to a 60 and an 80. I put them on the same IDE. I got a Y to give it power. I turned it on to see if just putting it in there would work, and It seems to be working.

However, I'm here so something is wrong. I installed in about 2 weeks ago. I didn't use my burner till now and I can't get anything to burn. It was working before. This seems too coincidental to me but it doesn't seem like it should effect it as nothing else is having problems.

The two HD's are on the Same IDE, while the burner and the dvd-rom are on the same IDE cable, so that shouldn't be the problem. And I have a 350 watt power supply for an Epox 8k7a board with 1.33 AMD. The IDE cable and the power supply were my first thoughts.

I just formatted my Drive C (Where my OS -XP Pro - and any other apps were installed) and I still can't burn anything. I've never experienced any problems with a burner. Maybe it's obvious it's broken, but I thought I'd check if maybe I missed something while putting in the HD or anything else.

thanks

OK - what is the source of the material you are burning? I.E., where is it?

Nero is installed on the C drive, and I have tried burning files from both harddrives, niether ended in success.
