Well, I have a dead laptop b/c my sis spilled coke on it a few months back see this thread for more info. Just wondering if it is possible to salvage the LCD and use it for basically anything. I already sold the HD from this unit and took it in for evaluation at bestbuy, but they said that dvd, mobo, HD, basically everythign inside needed to be replaced. However, I know for a fact that the HD was in working condition and was not damaged...thus I begin to doubt their other 'conclusions'. I haven't had time to mess with it since the coke spilling and best buy eval, but I was wondering if it possible to use the LCD as a TV digital pic frame etc. Any suggestions?

In summary, this page explains that you cannot directly connect a TFT laptop display directly to a computer (not without a controller card). Although no mention is made of it, the same will go for making a TV out of this display.

I think you can donate the computer to public schools and get a tax break of some sort...

As for salvaging the LCD, I have no idea if that can be done - however, I think it would be a cool project for some hands on learning if you tried to do it yourself :) I mean, the core LCD is the same for any LCD - just a monitor - and then there is some fancy connector... I know nothing about the workings of it, other than I can plug some stuff into other stuff - maybe if you found a regular monitor and stripped the VGA connector off it and then started playing with wires... I dunno, I learned how to use computers by taking them apart and putting them back together again, opening files, running files, clicking everywhere... you have nothing to lose.
