Simple question. I have a legit copy of XP Pro 64 laying around and was thinking about installing it on a HP that I inherited.

Will it work without a ton of trouble?

EDIT:

So what can I do with this XP 64 disc? I bought it a couple years ago and gave up trying to get it to work with my wireless drivers. Its never been registered and ebay won't let me sell it.

Is there anything I can do with it?

Honestly, I wouldn't try it. XP64 was never supported that well. I actually enjoy testing Windows and XP64 was nothing but a headache.
While a lot of manufactures are making 64bit Vista drivers and a lot of 32bit Vista drivers also work in 64bit Vista, there just isn't much out there for XP64. Now, the last time I tried it was probably a good 3 years ago, but I don't think much has changed.

XP x64 gets a really bad reputation, it's not really deserved. I've been running it at work for a couple years now with no real issues. Some small freeware or small company apps don't work, but all the big stuff works fine. Driver support is pretty much a non-issue on a pre-built system. If you stick with the basics you'll be fine.

That said, the only real reason to use it is for memory support. If you're not going to have 4 GB or more don't bother. Also keep in mind that some P4 chipsets won't do the memory remap necessary to address over 4 GB even though the CPU itself supports it. I ran into this with a 915 variant, the only solution is a new motherboard.

I never understood why people tryied to make server 2003 into a desktop OS when XP 64 but is the same kernel in desktop form...
