Can I use this with my Antec Neo Power 550? UPDATE

I have a GTX 295 coming in the mail and it takes a 6 pin and an 8 pin connection. My PSU only comes with two 6 pin connectors but the card ships with a (2x 6 pin -> 8 pin) adapter so I figured if I could just get another six pin adapter I would be all set.

I ordered this one online but failed to notice that it was for the Antec Neo Power 480 only. I have an Antec Neo Power 550. Do you think it would be fine? Could it possibly wreck my PSU or even my video card if I try?

What do you gurus think?

UPDATE: It dose not work. The reason it is for the NP 450 is that the part that connects to the PSU is a different size. It is a slightly larger version of the NP 550 connector.

That will work fine, and it saying that it's only for the NP-480 is bollocks

This is getting out of hand, you are very ill-informed. Please dont post just for the sake of posting. You arent being helpful to those that really need it. Minimum PSU requirement for a GTX295 is 680 watts. How can an Antec Neo 550w power a GTX295?

No your 550w Antec will not be sufficient for a GTX295. You need at least a 680 watt PSU. I would recommend at least 750 though.

I was actually asking about the cabling.

In response to your comment I believe that my PSU is adequate due to information I gathered from the following links. What can you tell/show me to convince me that the Neo Power 550 is insufficient?

Antec 550 review

GTX 295 measured power consmption.

Ummm... well it says minimum system requirements is a 680w PSU. Just because because a PSU is rated for 550w doesnt guarantee it will run at that wattage for its entire lifespan.

Here is a link:

Just read the system requirements section!

Here is a review from hardwarecanucks:
LINK
Load power draw is 418w here. Most other reviews show similar results.

Load draw is 433w in this review.

So the Antec 550w will definitely not cut it. Sorry to burst your bubble though

The minimum requirements are inflated to account for poor quality PSUs. The PCIe connectors can only draw 75W each and the PCIe bus an additional 75W, so the most the video card can draw alone is 225W.

Load draw is measured at the wall, multiply it by the efficiency of the PSU (~.85) to to get the actual load at the PSU.

It should be just fine.

225 watts is IDLE power draw on this card. If the card is bought for gaming in mind, then it will draw a lot more power than that.
Check out this review from guru3d. It says System in IDLE = 226w
System with GPU in FULL stress = 416 watts. Come on guys, lets get real here, this is an SLI set up on one board. GTX 260's draws 274w at load (straight from anandtech reviews), put 2 together, do the math.

And guru3d says a 700w PSU is required. Are all the review sites wrong?

As for the Anand review of the 260 the entire system drew 263 watts at load.

Anands review of a GTX 285 list the power consumption of a 260 SLI as 396 watts and the GTX 295 at load as 378 watts for the entire system at load. Surely a quality 550 watt PSU can deliver 378 watts all day long?

One review site I linked stated that they "can not officially recommend anything less than BFG's minimum requirements of a 680W power supply". Now if I were building a system today with the 295 in mind I would get a PSU rated a bit higher just to be sure but as the one I have is the one I have I'll give it a shot.

From your link.
System with GPU in FULL Stress = 416 Watt

If you read the review of the Neo Power 550 you will see that it will run 442 watts at 85% efficiency and pass all test.

No, my friend, you are the misinformed one here.

The very review you cited in your later posts showing an overclocked i7 rig with a GTX295, with the ENTIRE RIG, not just the GPU pulling only 416 watts under load. A good quality 500w PSU here would be sufficient, although it would be working hard.

No, the most that a video card with 2 connectors can draw is 225W. (Not the whole system, just the card.)

You cannot double the entire system draw when you add only a video card.

They're overestimating because of the number of crap PSUs which are available.
