So its thundering really hard and raining cats and dogs in my area right now. Just in case power goes out today, can i use this generator outside? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009E26LLC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01

I've just bought it and tested it out on a sunny day and it works fine. I don't have any type of cover for it except for my awning, but it'll easily get wet with the wind blowing.

I've seen Honda commercials of their generators working in the pouring rain. Will mine work too?

as long as you don't immerse the thing - sure it'll be fine

...you're not thinking about using it indoors are you?

def not indoors. My lights just flickered and i heard my UPS backup switch for a second.

U sure it won't blow up upon contact with some pouring rain?

In the pouring rain, I'd put something on top of it. Board, garbage can lid, something. But under the awning, if there will be ventilation, should be fine.

Yes it will be fine, as long as it isn't immersed, as PottedMeat said. You don't want a cover over it while it's running, since there are a few air-cooled components (the motor, the generator).

And you know, just saying, every OEM out there has a site with support and technical information these days. When I put a few hundred bucks into a piece of equipment I might ask friends for advice, but I'm going to the source for important stuff like "can this get wet?"

Don't cover it. It will overheat.

BTW. 1500 watts won't power much. Take about an hour to brew a pot of coffee.

We have a 2500 watt unit much like that one and used it in the rain lots.

Covering the top won't hurt anything.
Enclosing the generator completely is not a good idea.

Check your ventilation and have a CO detector handy. Way too many stories about people accidentally offing themselves with generators when the power goes out.
