I was thinking of grabbing Paradigm Monitor 7 towers now, and buying the rest of the system when my HT room is finished. So i'm wondering if these will do good without a sub? I'm only going to use them for music for now. Will there be any bass? These go from 47hz and up.

Any links / more information on the speakers?

Logic however says - they are speakers, of course they will be 'ok' without a Sub.

I say - try the speakers, if the bass is lacking, then get a sub.

However its better to have the bass coming from both speakers.. so really you want to find some speakers that match your needs

Those speakers only go down to 47Hz at reference levels.

For music, a sub isn't absoutley neccassary but will really help the low range.

For home theater, you will need a sub

SVS Subs are really good

Info about these speakers can be found here. Getting a sub with them is not an option. It will be weeks, maybe months, until i know which one i want.

Well, i am currently using FPS2000 speakers, and i believe the sub goes down to 30hz. Is there any software out there that can allow me to configure my PC to output sound from 47hz and up only? That way i can see how much of the bass in my music will be lost.

Those speakers will be fine untill you get a sub.

If you want to get a good cheap sub in the meantime I'd go for a Sony SAWM40
Its less than $200 at BestBuy.

Fill the box with a little Poly-fill and it wil perform like a sub 3 times its price.

The monitor series are a GREAT speaker.
The 9's definatly do not need a sub, they hit hard for the size of the cones.

The 7's are also definatly a very defined sound.

I *own* these speakers, and they are sitting in my living room right now. They have a reasonable amount of low end, but really should be supplemented with a subwoofer. They will do OK without a sub, but I wouldn't count on a boomin' low end.

Honestly, I don't care for them all that much, and I would look at other brands if I was you... I am looking to replace them with a nice pair of Yamaha NS-1000M or NS-500M. Oh how I wish I could find a pair of these in nice condition. :(

I'm not really sure. My Paradigm sub is great, but these Monitor 7's, well, they just don't sound as rich and full as what I am used to. Before these, I had never owned anything with a driver smaller than 10", so that could be part of the problem.

I just don't care for the sound, that's all. Other people I know think they sound great...

If what you listen to doesn't have that much in the low end, you should be okay...worst case just add a sub later.
