Can I use the Win98SE install floppy to get my PC to recognize a CD-ROM

Probably a noob question, but I'm finally upgrading from Win98SE and want to do a ?Clean? install of WinXP Pro, is this OK??

Go In to your BIOS and set your Boot Order to Boot from the CD-ROM drive, the XP CD will boot itself, no Need for Any Floppy use, Infact you din even need for Win98SE.

Yes, you can get your Win98 boot-disk to recognize the CD-ROM drive, but if my memory is correct, you can't install WinXP in that fashion (it can't be installed from the old DOS). As previously mentioned I believe you MUST boot from the WinXP CD-ROM disc itself to install WinXP. Still, it's a simple thing... good luck (me myself, I run a dual-boot system with both WinME and WinXP).

If the Windows XP CD is an upgrade then keep the Windows 98 SE CD handy. If the drive does not have Windows 98 on it then it will ask you to prove you qualify for the upgrade. Just insert the Windows 98 CD for a minute to verify you qualfy and reinsert the Windows XP CD when instructed.

XP can be installed from a command prompt, 98 bootdisk or otherwise.

I think it's the FULL version. I bought the OEM version at newegg($146), so I don't think it's an upgrade.

Just boot from the CD. Worst case, it asks for your Windows 98 CD to be inserted during Setup to verify that you qualify for an upgrade. However, this doesn't install any part of Windows 98.

Of course, if it really is the full version, then you're good to go.

It looks like a full version. Why did you get the professional version? Will you be using any of the extra features?
