i've tried downloading from asus's site but everytime i install the drivers..after rebooting my system shuts down.... i've tested all the parts (xcept the mobo)by swapping with ones that worked well and every one of em' works fine....

i could go to safe mode, but every time installed the chipset drivers windows just stuck.....
so i've narrowed down my suspicion that it's a driver related issue....

so, since the driver from asus site doesn't work can i use the generic nforce4 chipset driver ??

what do you guys think ???

the box is:
axp64 3500+
asus a8n-sli rev v1.02
kingston kvr series 1 GB
geforce 6600 LE
onboard sound
one maxtor 60 GB
and a WDC 250 GB

thanks in advance

You should be using the Nvidia drivers.
Also have you updated the motherboard's BIOS?

i've got this same board... I get my drivers from nvidia... you can also find the drivers on guru3d... i've had to go there a few times for the vista64 drivers

Nvidia.com > Download Drivers > nForce > nForce 4 Series > nForce 4 SLI AMD > Your Operating System > Your Language.

What you should is head on over to the Drivers forum at NForcersHQ.com and get the latest driver pack that works with the nForce 4.

nVidia has stopped officially supporting it with any meaningful driver updates, but end users take the latest drivers and and the older nForce ID's to the newer driver files and create newer nForce driver packs.

These aren't slap it together type deals, they work very well.

I just did this with an nForce2 system I re-installed for my brothers friends parents (ok, that sounded a little weird), and it worked great!

Why use old stuff when you can use the newest?

EDIT: Make sure to flash up to the newest BIOS for the board before you install Windows, that way you don't run into any problems afterwards.

thx a lot guys...
but it turns out to be the HDD is failing....my friend didn't told me that one of his hdd had been actin' awry for the last few month...sometimes it's detected...sometimes it's not...i did not suspect that the HDD was the culprit bcoz' of before i install xp i run chkdsk on the drive and no errors was detected...but i'm more curious whether or not this could be a power issue ?????

coz my friend's PSU is a generic cheapo that always a bit short on supplying the +5 +12 rails....could it ???
thanks again 4 the replies :)
