Can I use the Linksys Router as a simple switch?

I've got a Linksys Router with the 4-port switch since I need more ports on my network and I'm looking forward to getting a cable modem. In the mean time, all I have is dialup access and so I've be running ICS (Internet connection Sharing) on the comp with the modem so that everone has internet access. Problem is, when I installed the Linksys router, the ICS stopped working.

I've got four switch ports on the Linksys used, but the WAN port is still unused, for obvious reasons. I tried re-installing ICS...no luck. So I disabled the DHCP on the router and re-installed ICS again. Still no luck with ICS. Can anyone give some ideas?

It should work as a simple switch. I have set several people up with the SMC Baracade, because you can hook up on external modem and share it until you get DSL. Someone else is going to have to help with the ICS though.

Mine worked fine as a simple switch, on my workplace's network with DHCP. (I have only one network jack and wanted net access for my PC, my Mac, and my laptop.) I have since bought a plain switch though - much cheaper and smaller.

You didn't accidently plug the computer with ICS into the uplink port did you? Another thing, if you do plug in another switch/hub into the uplink port, the port next to it(port #1) will not work.

Is the router address on the same network segment as your PCs (ie, are all using 192.168.1.x or whatever)? The router defaults to 192.168.1.1 and your LAN may have already been 192.168.0.x.
