Can I use a router to share one SBC DSL connetction among several PCs?

If yes, does that mean I can just dial once from one PC and then other PCs can share the connection through router?

Thanks!

Yes you can share a DSL connection with multiple computers with a router. I don't think you need to dial out for a DSL connection. It should always be on.

It even gets better with a Router you do not have to dial at all from any PC.

SBC currently uses a modem that does PPPOE onboard which means that no software is required. Running in bridged mode is ideal though if you connect the modem to a router, then the router does the PPPOE instead.

If you get SBC DSL don't use the install cd it's really bad and adds more lame sofware to your computer. Instead follow this guide:

Second that on not using their software. I haven't dealt with it lately, but the older versions put no less that 4 icons on the desktop, 3 in the Quick Launch and several in the Systray. Talk about invasive!

Here's a link pertaining to running the modem in bridged mode. The article deals with a Netgear Router but the info on the Modem itself will of course be relevant.

Here's another site with info on ditching their CD.

Agreed! Whatever you do, don't install any of their software! If you have one of the newer Modems that SBC gives you, it should have a PPPoE Dialer in the modem. If not, the router will take care of the PPPoE connection and you will not have to do a thing on the PC's except surf away! Once you use a router you will never look back.
