Can I use router to network 2 computers WITHOUT internet connection?

Dumb question.

I've got a router, but won't have an internet connection pretty soon. Can I still use the router just for local file sharing between my 2 computers?

Oh, and I have the Linksys 4-port router/switch.

Just to clarify for future reference. You are using the switch part of your linksys to network the PC's. The routing features dont really come into play unless you are connecting to another network, in the Linksys's case, that would be the internet.

Theoretically yes, however I'm trying to do the same thing with four computers while I wait for cable service, and I can use it fine as a switch, but I can't seem to get it to share the dial-up connection. Something about the setup keeps the computers without the connection from finding the computer with the dial-up conection. Confusing, uh...

Just saying that to let you know that there are some potential problems possible. I personally hjave tried disabling DHCP on the router, re-installing Internet connection sharing, etc, but The lan part works great...

Please post if you get it to work and sharing a dail-up connection....

The problem is that the router is internally connected to the switch as a DHCP server and when you try to use a PC with ICS it will try to be a DHCP server.
