Hi, I just got my SMC Router and I am using internal modem 56k. Is there anyway I can use this router to build a small network for basically sharing files and internet connection? Thanks in advance. Please explain to me in more detail since I am really newbie and just got the ICS working with crossover cable with the help from all the people on this forum.

You can use the Barricade as a regular switch, forgoing the Crossover cable.

The Barricade can not be use as a Router since it Routes only Internet signal that comes from the WAN input, or the external Modem Input.

Unless you change your Modem to an external one you will have to keep using ICS.

Thanks, that's what I thought before this. Since if it will not be working as a router, the firewall will not work then I assume. What about if I switch to external modem, how does it work? I see the COM port in the back of the router so I think the cable from the external modem will be hooked up to the router so how do I connect to the Internet? Thanks
