Can I use pc2100 ram with a 2500+

certainly, it won't provide the best performance with the CPU@166mhz though and if I remember correctly 133mhz synch mode is actually better performing so you could drop the fsb to match the ram and up the multiplier for clockspeed boosts. Of course if you can get that 2100DDR to hit 2700 speeds that's even better, but running synch would be the best solution.

Yup... at least my Kingston valueram was running @ 172FSB. Any higher than that and it would error out in memtest.
You need a little more headroom. A stick of Corsair XMS PC2400 will most definately handle it :).
