Can I use paint thinner to get thermal pad off?

I need to get the remnants of a HS pad off of my CPU and nail polish remover and alcohol just are not cutting it. I used paint thinner on the actual HSF and it worked great. Do you think this is OK to use on the CPU? Reason pro and con please...

Thanks

I used nail polish remover and it worked fine.. Uh.. I'm not too sure about the paint remover though.. maybe if you use a Qtip and do it very very carefully.. I never heard of anyone doing that though.. but I don't see why it would mess anything up.. I don't know.. I can't believe that nail polish remover didn't work though..

Yah it would not do the job around the edges. I used a Q-tip but right after the edge of the die there was left over pad stuck in there
