Can I use onboard sound AND X-Fi?

Hey All,

Question: I have an X-Fi which I like. But I'd like to use the MP3-In feature on my mobo which will play from an MP3 player without the system being on. I tried it with the built-in HD Audio turned off and it didn't work.

However, I can't get sound out of the X-Fi if the on-board HD Audio is enabled. (Unless there is a way that I don't know about.) I'm presuming that the MP3-In feature will only work if on-board sound is enabled.

I also have the option of using AC97 (?) sound instead of HD Audio. Question: Is there any way to use both the X-Fi and on-board sound at once?

why don't you just plug the mp3 player into the speaker?

the on-board thingy is proprietary. don't expect it to work with anything else

YOyoYOhowsDAjello: Oh, it looks like I have an Aux In in the back of the Woofer. That should be easy enough. Just trying to get my money's worth out of this MB. I wanted to get a 680i MB, but didn't want to deal with such an immature chipset since this computer is the server for a SQL-based homeschooling program.

Just out of curiousity, what do you think of the X-FI over your Asus's onboard audio?
Was it worth it?

Actually, I have not tried this on-board audio. However, I tried the nForce2 audio on my Asus A7N8X Deluxe. On that board, the sound was great but it would never remember my settings.

I had to set it back to 5.1 every time I booted, because it would re-set it to 2.1. Also, it didn't support the latest greatest EAX that Creative came up with. It supported an older version, but not what the latest games were using.

I've been very happy with the X-Fi...especially after deleting all the start up crap that Creative dumps in there.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I would say if you are a hardcore gamer, you want the X-Fi. If good sound, but not the absolute best is OK, go with on-board.

If you have that AUX in port, I say use it and don't waste any time on getting the integrated to work.
