If you use the USB 1.1 hub you will only get USB 1.1 speed, which can be significantly slower then USB 2.0 (12mb vs. 480mb). If your USB 2.0 device has any kind of bandwidth requirements (scanner, dig cam, hard drive, burner even) then using a 2.0 hub will make a big difference, if you are talking about a keyboard, mouse or something that does not require 2.0 bandwidth but just has it to say that it is 2.0 compliant, then it wont matter.

You can use the cable, but not the hub.

USB 1.1 and 2.0 are electrically the same and therefore use the same cables. The only thing that has changed is the timing to allow for faster transfers.

You cannot use the hub however. It you do any devices plugged into it will be limited to 1.1 speeds.

My hub is integrated into the back of my monitor :( I'll just use it for input devices. When I plug my Toshiba PDR-m81 into the USB 2.0 port.... WOAH MOMMA... it transfers files FAST. The cable is identicle... what matters are the electronics. I guess some older USB devices are capable of much faster speeds and 2.0 lets that come out. Now the 128mb SM card is almost like a slow HD!
(wonder if I can run Sandra on it to test throughput????)
