can i use laptop when the lid is closed?

if i want to close my laptop and still use it hooked up to external monitor/k/m can i do this? do i just have to change the power settings to "do nothing" when lid is closed (if that's an option)?

As far as I know you can...I think it only turns off the LCD when you close it (similar to just turning your monitor off).

Yep. My dad uses his laptop with an external all the time at work. As far as I know, you dont have to mess with something every time you switch displays.

I've got an old Micron at home and supprt IBM Stinkpads (600 series and T series) at work and they all work just fine with the lid closed. All it does is turn off the LCD screen.

In fact, I just closed the lid on my IBM T-20 now. Still working, just as slow as it was before I closed the lid...
