Can I use Firewire HD for using capturing directly from camcorder ?

Also, I have to use several remote computer.

So. using a firewire hard disk could be the best solution if it has no problem in capturing directly from camcorder and Premiere editing.

I read in the forum "A firewire hard disk will not perform near as well as if it's on an IDE controller. However a 7200RPM firewire hard disk will outperform a 4200RPM IDE hard disk"

Thanks!!

a firewire 7200RPM drive is perfect for video. You arent going to lose any frames considering your camcorder runs over firewire too, so it shouldnt matter.

First, get a FW HDD that uses the Oxford 911 chipset. That said, *no* editing companies (either makers of hardware or software) offically support FW drives 'cause they don't always work like they should. A 7200RPM IDE drive on a ribbon cable will always capture video fine unless there is something defective or broken. A mechanically flawless FW HDD might not always capture the video correctly.

Superman9534, the places where things go fubar on a FW drive is in the "bridge." That's why buying something w/the Oxford 911 chipset is so important is 'cause it's got the best IDE-to-FW "converter" (for lack of a better term) out there.

All that said, I'd say 9/10 people use FW HDDs for DV editing w/no more problems then those of using internal IDE drives.
