Can I use faster rated ram in motherboard?

I have an old Asus P4B533-V motherboard that support DDR PC2100/1600. Can I use faster ram in it? PC3200 or 2700. I understand that it won't go at the full speed, but I want to know if the motherboard will accept it and use it.

The reason for getting faster ram, it's CHEAPER.

yeah, it's backwards compatible.

It should work, it would just run at lower speeds. I've got PC2700 in a KR7A (supports up to PC2100), although it just runs at the lower speeds (although depending upon the sticks you can tighten the timings)

u can. it'll simply run slower. as bunnyfubbles said, u might be able to tighten the timings. and i know exactlly what you mean. wanted to upgrade my gramps old computer. $75 buck for a 128MB stick! it was old ram tho. before sdram even.
