Can I use existing Windows install when upgrading from S754 NF2 to S939 NF4?

Figured this would get a better answer here than in the OS forum.

I had an MSI K8N Neo Plat, running nForce drivers that are probably several months old (if not older). Just got my 3200+ E3 Venice in the mail, so going to strap all that up with an eVGA NF4 SLI board.

I'm planning on doing a full reinstall, possibly on a brand new HDD, but will it work stably if I just boot it up on the old HDD's with the existing Windows install? nForce drivers support NF2 & NF4 SLI chipsets right, even if its an older driver? I just can't easily back up the files and wipe it out yet. TIA!!

nF4 uses stand alone forcewares, unlike 1-2-3. If you need it to be a bootable drive, I bet you can just boot up in safe mode, install the FWs, reboot and be good to go.

Ah, good to know; I probly would've seen that had I checked NVIDIA's site 😉

That sounds like a plan. Just need to get into Windows till I can figure out what I'm going to do w/my drives 🙂 Thanks!

Make a backup of the drive using ghost or some other imaging software, on the backup drive remove any of the old chipset, video, audio, lan, ect drivers, shut the system off and use the backuped copy of your system for a "repair" install of windows and you should be golden, I've used this method to move my install of windows through aprox 5 complete system upgrades, I'm still using my orginal install of winxp from my old Pentium 3 733 @ 825
