Can I use Compaq drive on homebuilt computer?

Hi,

I have been looking at some Compag scsi drive's on Ebay. I have a system that I built myself..Abit mb, Inwin case etc.

Is it possible to install Compaq drive on my system?

I'm not sure if they were built only to fit a Compaq computer, like perhaps they may have an special "Compaq" connection instead of a standard type of scsi connection.

You would probably do good just emailing the seller(s) and asking. I think that it would be okay, but my experience with compaq is with old (non scsi) drives, we're talking 540 meg IDE drives, those work fine. I don't know about the SCSI drives though. I don't see why not, if the connector is the same, email the seller.

Most of the parts except the powersupply and motherboard/case are useable in any system...

What is the scsi drive?

I dont think Compaq makes their own HD's. But then again, the last Compaq I touched was a '95 model. It had a Maxtor in it. Im pretty sure that it should work. Normally, they are just other drives remarked, but then again..this is compaq we are talkin about. Look at the pic...it should tell you

We use mostly Compaq servers at work and all the SCSI drives I've seen in them are just rebadged Quantums. I've never seen or heard of a special "Compaq connection" and I work with these things on a daily basis.

But still, contact the seller to find out for sure.

I'm using 2 (used to be using 3) Compaq 15k rpm scsi drives on my home unit. They're simply rebadged Seagate Cheetah X15's.

They're blazing fast too. I got an AVERAGE read speed of over 100MB/sec with a 1mb+ file.
