Hello,

I have got a SATA (150 MB/sec) drive on my motherboard (81875 ultra from 2003).

I wanted to get a SATA drive, my understanding is that i should get a SATA 150 Mbps drive else i will have compatibility issues.

i have selected the following drive WD Scorpio WD800BEVS

i dont think the seller supplies a cable with the drive, so i am also shopping for a cable as well.

do i need to get a SATA 150mbps cable or can i get any SATA cable?

As long as the cable fits you'll be fine. Some of the original cables didn't have the "key" added to the connector. it was just straight. If you look at the connector there should be a little part that turns down at the end, those are the more common ones.

thanks for the reply,

i guess the little part that you mentioned is the key, what do you mean by that it turns down at the end?

do all the SATA cables have a standard interface and the newer ones (SATA 300 Mbps) are backwards compatible?

i guess i would have to buy a SATA power cable in addition to the SATA data cable, correct?

have the SATA power cable standards changed, would i be able to use a new SATA power cable with my old motherboard (81875 ultra) from 2003?

thanks for the reply,

the red SATA plugs in the top right side of the site are the SATA ports which i have on my motherboard.
can i use the new SATA cables with my motherboard?
