Can I use an ATX 2.0 PSU on my old ATX motherboard?

I just bought an antec earthwatts 430 PSU.
It has a 24 pin connector where my old ATX motherboard (asus A7V) has a standard ATX 20 pin connector.

So basically, can I just stick this on and leave the extra 4 pins not plugged in, cause it will fit like that. Just don't know if it's backwards compatible.

Thanks

Yes it will work fine in most cases, however if you are making use of any ISA slot devices or in some cases if your motherboard even has ISA slots you may run into problems caused by the lack of a -5v rail in ATX 2.0 supplies.

It will work fine as long as there is space off the end of the ATX socket. Besides, the Earthwatts PSUs use a 20+4 connector - the extra 4 pins come off... Look closer! Duuuuh...

So they do, look at that!

It's too bad that the clip won't fit because there is a capacitor there! Damn! This PSU has a big clip.
So close...

You can always slice the clip off or the nib off the socket... Or caps can be a bit flexible - just ease it out of the way. Which A7V do you have? I had several and don't recall a cap in the way. The wide clip is so that it can grab the nibs on both 20 and 24-pin sockets - trim off vertically the half you don't need.
