Can I use a SATA300 HDD on a SATA150 slot?

I have an Asus A8N-E mobo and currently using a SATA150 HDD. Can I add a SATA300 HDD and use one of the existing empty slots?

If a slot is SATA300 can a SATA150 be used on it...and vice versa?

SATA300 drive

The drives come from the manufacturer with a jumper on them that makes them run at SATA 150 speed. If this jumper is removed the drive will run at SATA 300 speed if the controller supports it but will run at SATA 150 speed if not.

I'm told they come this way for compatibility reasons as some controllers may malfunction and not detect the drive if not forced to that mode.
