Can I use a KVM switch without using the video display portion?

I was looking at getting a simple USB KVM switch so that I can switch between two computers. Can I use it for just the keyboard and mouse and not have any displays plugged into it?

I have a dual monitor setup and I would like to be able to just switch the input devices from one screen to the other (each monitor will be driven by a different computer).

Just checking.

Thanks!

Never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Basically you want two screens to stay connected to each computer. Only switching KB and Mouse. Correct?

It should work just the way you want. I own a 4-port KVM which uses ps2 ports. I was able to do the very same thing.

Yes. I have dual monitors. One computer will be able to drive both and the other will only be able to drive one. All I want do do is switch the KB and mouse.

In two computer mode I will just manually switch one monitor to the VGA input and then switch the input devices with the KVM.
