Can I use a DDR vid card in a SDR motherboard?

My friend wants to put a Radeon DDR type vid card in his P3 mainboard that only uses SDR ram. Is it compatible? Any drawbacks (aside from some slowdown)? Thanks!

Memory has to be compatable with the memory controler its associated with. Since the northbridge has an SDR controler, and you are using SDR ram for main memory, thats cool.
The video card has a memory controler on it for the video memory. Since the memory for the video card is on the card, and matched to its controler, its cool. Both the memory and controler on the video match, nothing else matters.

I am currently running that setup. I am very satisfied.

Hope this helps;

Doug

Ahhhh. marketing.... using the same acronyms for many different things.

(BTW: Yes is the answer to your question)

The RAM on the video card is completely independent of what system RAM is actually used on the motherboard.
