Can I use a Barton?

I've got a Shuttle AK31A Rev 3.1 motherboard. I was running a XP 1800+ until it burnt out on me last week. As a temp solution I've been running a 1 GHz T-Bird (running kinda hot). I want a new CPU and I was thinking of the 2400+ for $74, but then I saw the 2500+ Barton for $90. Would I be able to run the Barton? Would the fsb just be limited to the speed of my MB and RAM? 512K of cache sure does sound nice. 😀

Ok, then I guess no.

Anybody wanna recommend a good MB that supports 333 MHz FSB and Barton CPUs? Oh yeah, and some RAM as well.

NForce2?

Epox 8RDA+ is only $84.

The ram really depends on whether you plan on overclocking. But I like Kingston ValueRam for Value. I'm not a overclocker myself so I can't really suggest any good ram. But maybe Corsair XMS or Kingston HyperX.

Edit: Or do what crystalbay suggested above. Thats not a bad suggestion.

Another excellent idea.

I have been debating this with myself lately. I am currently on a VIA KT266A/XP1800 setup, and I would like to get the Epox and the XP2500. But I don't think it's worth it to jump from XP1800 to XP2500 for $180. So getting a XP1700 for $44 with free shipping from Newegg is the most bang for the buck solution for you.
