Can I use a 533MHz P4 with my motherboard?

I currently have an Intel 850MV motherboard with a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 running with a 400MHz FSB. I've updated my BIOS to the latest version I can find, and I was wondering if I'll be able to update to a 2.8GHz P4 next month. I've heard that the only real difference between the i850 and i850E mobos is that the latter has been "validated" for the 533MHz bus. Most i850 boards will work fine with a 533MHz P4, but some will not. According to Intel's website, my i850MV board supports up to a 2.6GHz P4 with a 400MHz FSB. Sandra 2002 reports that the maximum FSB my mobo can support is 533MHz. I don't know which one is more reliable. Maybe Intel just brought out the i850E so it can sell the new board. Does anyone have any experience running 533MHz FSB CPUs on an i850 board? Thanks for the advice!!!

I'm guessing that you're stuck with 400MHz CPUs. If you had a motherboard that supported overclocking, you could probably handle the 533FSB CPUs, but since you have an Intel board, I doubt it.

I guess the only sure way would be to try it out. But I don't want to spend the money and have it not work properly.
