Can i use a 4.5V Adapter for my Sharp MD Player, which on the back says that it uses a 5V adapter?

My friend broke his charger and is now getting rid of his MD player. I have it with me, and another friend that tried it said that he used a 5V charger which worked fine in charging the rechargeable lithium battery. I have a 4.5V adapter that came with my Riovolt SP100 Mp3/CD player, plus the 4.5V cigar adapter from the koss car package thingy. WOuld i be able to use any of those to charge my MD player? I understand that it can fry it and i'd rather listen to the good old people at AT then try it myself. Btw, the model is the Sharp MD-M5831-A or the Sharp 831 MD Portable Recorder. One of those :) It comes with numerous MD's, the actual player, and the remote. No charger or headphones, which doesn't bother me. He's asking 50$

It will probably work okay. Did the 5v charger come with the player or from somewhere else? As long as the charger voltage is above the battery voltage, it should charge it.

the charger came with the Sharp Player. I'm pretty sure I cna use my 4.5V adapter, but for some reason it doesn't fit into the slot... just barely :(

Make sure you check the polarity of the plug. Center positive or negative. There should be a diagram on both the MD player and the adaptors that show which is + and -... VERY important. That is the most likely way you will fry it. The voltage isn't that vital only being .5 volt off.

Good point. Forgot to mention that. Always check the polarity on stuff like this. If the 5v charger came with the player a 4.5v should work okay...assuming you can get the plug to work.
