Can I Use 533MHz Bus CPU (2.8B, 2.66B, etc) on P4B266?

Hello Everyone,

Right now I'm running a P4 1.6A @ 2133MHz on an Asus P4B266 motherboard using the "unofficial" 133MHz FSB.

Does anyone know if this board will work correctly with the 533MHz bus CPU's (2.8B, 2.66B, 2.53B, 2.4B), or do I have to stay with the 400 MHz bus CPU's? I assume it will work fine, based on my 1.6A overclock, but wanted confirmation before opening my wallet for one of these.

Thanks,

I tried a 2.26B on my old P4B266 and it wasn't even stable running at 1.7GHz!! The same CPU can run at 3GHz on my BD7II. I've heard of other people who could use Northwood B's on a P4B266 though.

I appreciate the info TheCoz. Sounds like I should stay away from the Northwood B's unless more information becomes available. Perhaps overclocking a 2.0 or 2.2GHz 400 MHz bus processor would be a better option on the P4B266 motherboard.

I heard some people say that the P4B266 tops out at 150FSB. Coincidentally, that's what FSB I'm using on my P4B266-C. I have a 1.6A @ 2.4GHz and 1.55volts. I've also seen others post P4B266 systems running at higher than 150FSB. Somewhere around 150 is probably the highest FSB you'll get out of this board. If you can afford it, I'd get another board, like the P4B533, P4PE, or wait for Asus's granite bay board.
