Can I use 2x or 4x on 8x slot?

I'm setting up a server. Is it possible to use an old AGP 2x ATI Rage 128 Pro (I think it's called the Fury?) on a new KT600 motherboard with an 8x AGP slot. The newer voltage is lower, right? Will the motherboard make propper adjustments? What's the deal?

THanks,

The Rage 128 chip does AGP 2x, 3.3V signalling ONLY. Rage 128 _Pro_ can do 4x w/ 1.5V signalling, apparently.

KT600 in turn, just like all VIA chips KT333CF and higher, can ONLY do 1.5V signalling (for 4x and 8x modes).

If the card doesn't support a signalling voltage the mainboard produces, won't even fit mechanically. AGP slot and card keying prevents that. See ATi's excellent compatibility chart and drawings here:
